Plain version first: we ask for as little as we can, we do not sell anything to anybody, and the anonymous box really is anonymous. The detail is below.
What we collect, and why
Saying you are coming to something. A first name and an email address. The name goes to whoever is hosting so you are expected rather than a stranger walking up. The email is so we can tell you if the plan changes. You do not need an account for this.
Joining. A name, an email address and a password. Membership is free and exists so local businesses backing us know you are one of ours.
Asking the squad. Your question, and optionally a name, an email address and a phone number if you want a reply. If you tick the anonymous box we record none of those, not even if you are logged in at the time and we could have worked out who you are. That is deliberate and it is tested.
Turning up. Hosts can tick off who actually came to an event. Squad leaders can see that, and it is used for one thing: noticing when a man who used to come regularly has gone quiet, so somebody can check on him.
Business listings. Whatever you send us about your business, including a logo. That is meant to be published, which is the point of the directory.
Who sees it
Squad leaders and the admins running the site. Nobody else. We do not sell, rent or hand over personal information, and we do not send it to advertisers.
Head counts are public because a stranger deciding whether to come needs to know somebody else will be there. Names are members only. Email addresses and phone numbers are never shown to anyone.
Other people’s services
Some pages embed a video from YouTube. We use their no-cookie player, but once you press play YouTube sees you and their terms apply. Links out to Facebook groups are Facebook’s business, not ours.
The site does not run advertising trackers or analytics.
Getting rid of it
Ask and we will delete your account and what is attached to it. Anonymous questions cannot be deleted on request for the obvious reason: there is nothing tying them to you, so we cannot find yours.
To ask for any of that, contact the admins.
